WHERE ARE YOU ROOTED?

by Idaline Prince

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7

King coconut is the water contained in a variety of bright orange colored and is indigenous to the tropical island of Sri Lanka. King coconut is filled with electrolytes, is refreshing, rejuvenating, healthy and delicious. Due to its natural occurrence however, it is possible for the king coconut water to vary from one another. The natural constituents of king coconut water may also vary depending on the soil composition, and climate in which the tree it was taken from grew.

A story is said of a farmer who planted two trees on either sides of his field – one to provide a hedge and cover up a landfill which edged his property and the other beside a small brook which bordered the opposite side. Both the trees began to flower and bear fruit. The farmer was eager to taste the fruits. Collecting the fruits in two baskets, the farmer sat down and plunged his hand into one of the baskets. He was surprised by the symmetry of the fruit as it looked disfigured yet he wanted to taste it. One bite of the fruit proved it was unfit to be consumed. He was disappointed but he gave the fruits in the next basket a try. The tree which grew by the cool brook produced bright shiny fruit and the farmer was contented and refreshed in every bite.

Nature is a sure proof that the fruit is determined by the nourishment provided by the soil where the tree is rooted in. This is the instruction Paul gave to the believers’ in Colossae in Colossians 2:7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:7

Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
