How to Pray?

by Prince Josiah Jeyaraj

Prayer with a heart of thanks giving:
Philippians 1:4 “I always pray for you, and I make my requests with a heart full of joy.”
God wants to us pray with a heart of thanks giving or heart full of joy. Many times when we pray our thoughts are filled with anger, bitterness, why certain things happen only to us, etc, God clearly wants us to have heart of thanks giving or heart full of joy.

Pray as – No expectations as your will:
I Thessalonians 5:17,18 “Keep on praying, No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
God wants us to pray, keep on praying, no matter what happens, either we get an answer or don’t get an answer, A classic example can found in book of Daniel 6, that Daniel was keep on praying, his prayer was consistent, constant and spontaneous.

Pray for authorities
I Timothy 2:2 “Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity.”
God wants to pray for those in authority over us, authority can be your parents, your husbands, your teachers, your boss at the work place, the reason to pray – is not for God to bless them, but for us to live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity. It depends a lot on our authorities for us live in peace and quietness – so remember them in your prayers.

Pray Persistently
Luke 18:1 8, talks about a widow who repeated approached the evil judge for justice against someone who harmed her. The judge ignored her for awhile and finally could not wear her out, but gave her justice as she was persistent.
If that is so how much more the God of justice and the merciful LORD can do for us, let us give up, but be persistent.

Pray with help of the Holy Spirit
Romans 8:26, “And the Holy Spirit helps in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in words.
Pray with help of the Holy Spirit.

When You Pray – Know you are fighting against the dark powers
Ephesians 6:12, “For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, against the wicked spirits in the heavenly realms”
Remember our prayer is not against individuals, but against the unseen dark powers of the world.
