Great Commission

by Prince Josiah Jeyaraj

I never understood the great commission in the context of Sunday School teachers till recently. In Matthew 28:19 –20 the Bible says, 19 ”Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”Disciple Making is part of the Great CommissionMake disciples means make followers; we read in the scriptures that Jesus made followers for him or he called few individuals to be his followers. In Matthew 4: 19 – 22, the Bible says, 19"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. Jesus began to disciple and teach his followers every day separately Matthew 10, through the church Mark 1:21 – 22, through crusades Matthew 11:1.

Jesus called them to be his followers, so that one day they would also influence people around them like he did and they too will fulfill the great commission of the LORD in making disciples. The entire process, of discipleship, is a reproductive process. it goes on and on.
In 2 Timothy 2:2, the Bible says, "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others"

Children are most reliable people around, they are innocent, active, excited about things and the list goes on. Disciple them well, so as they grow up they would make others follow their example. The Bible says, in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, when he is old, he will not depart.” That means when we discipline the child in God’s ways he will not depart from the discipline.Teaching is part of the Great CommissionJesus said, "go and make disciples . . . teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matt. 28:19-20).

God gave Jesus authority over heaven and earth. On the basis of that authority, Jesus told his disciples to make more disciples as they preached, baptized, and taught. With this same authority, Jesus still commands us to tell others the Good News and make them disciples for the Kingdom.

When you slip through the scriptures, we find Jesus is more of a teacher. Jesus taught in the synagogues, taught the disciples to pray, taught people through parables and people were marveled at his teaching. Matthew 7:28, Mark 1:22, Mark 1:27

Teach the new disciples to obey the LORD. Teach diligently to your Sunday school children, since teaching is part of the Great commission of the LORD.Assurance is part of the Great Commission When we go about discipline and teaching the greatest teachers gives us an assurance that he is always with us till the end of the age.
